Apologies for not explaining before abandoning shop for days and days, though it felt wonderful to be out of the usual run of things. No computer, no camera, plenty of food, rest and good company. Very reluctant to list presents, as I'll only leave out whichever item is most loved and already forming a role so integral to my daily life, I can't remember not owning it.

Special merit award to the sender of 'Framed in Lace' - there can't be many works of detective fiction out there with multiple references to knitwear, and a free cross-stitch pattern.

Home from Oxford (third and final Christmas cake, safely delivered, though disturbingly crumbly, not sure what I did there), all good intentions re: health and fitness. Made bread and butter pudding within minutes. May I recommend Delia's suggested grating of orange rind. Perfect. There has, however, since been walking, gardening and even (don't faint) yoga. Am determined to build strength/stamina; some shrinkage would be pragmatic, as it'd save purchase of new work suits. A return to my desk is imminent.

Am trying new Marigold treatment intended to speed up closure of this wound that has been going on since September. I stock up on my less frequent visits to the Dr's surgery these days (selling off second-hand books, 3 for £1).
