No sale

I fell in love with the image - but as MP pointed out, "Would you buy a kettle made in 1972, or a hoover?"  She's always right, my sister, the pragmatist, "and have you got anything you need to sew right now?", oh, all right, all right, I'll slow down, read next week's small ads, start over.
.
Should never have got rid of Eva's treadle.  It made me a lot of friends as a teenager, turning flares into drainpipes.  Come to my house on a Saturday afternoon, and I'll transform you in time for the XTC gig, or a night at the Orange Tree.  Overdid it once with a school summer dress - so narrow the buttons were bursting across my chest, and no way back, I'd cut the seams..  And was that machine heavy, with its tapestry cover of Kaiser Wilhelm or was it Prince Albert?  Foolhardy teen, balancing a flowerpot on its precious wooden surface, it warped horribly.  And the foot was ever out of alignment - I got through that many needles.  Perhaps a brand new Singer, £95 with 15 years' free parts and service.  What do you think?
